Car radio – the driver’s best friend

The 21st century is the age of the Internet

Many people are predicting the rapid demise of the so-called “old media,” i.e. radio and television. It is true that the number of their users is decreasing year by year. However, there is one thing that remains constant – (almost) all of us listen to the radio in the car.

History of radio

Radio is nearly 150 years old, making it the second (after the press) oldest medium. It has played a significant role in human history, although it has not always been a positive hero – it has contributed to the success of totalitarian systems, among other things. It was supposed to completely supplant the press, so initially it was forbidden for them to provide important information before the evening, so that people would continue to buy newspapers. Later, with the advent of television, followed by the Internet, there was talk in turn of the imminent demise of radio – but it hasn’t happened, and there is no indication that it will – in 2018, as many as 72.7% of Poles listened to radio every day, and there were 297 radio stations on the radio market.

Radio as a medium

What caused radio to survive despite the emergence of theoretically more engaging media like the Internet and television? Probably the peculiarities of this medium. Radio is closer to people than any other medium. It accompanies him throughout the day – on the way to work, at work, at home, while preparing meals. It does not require full concentration, so it can be listened to while doing other activities. It stimulates the imagination and creates an intimate bond with the listener. It is not without reason that radio advertising is considered one of the most effective – the time elapsing from hearing about a product to purchase is the shortest here. It is also often the last medium a potential buyer has with before buying, so it is open to advertising messages.

Car and radio – a perfect combination

Undoubtedly, the place where most people come into contact with the radio is the car. Of all the media, the radio is the one that works best in the car – it doesn’t engage the eye and doesn’t require complicated operation, while keeping the driver entertained while driving. It often features traffic information – about accidents, traffic jams or detours. There are also special radios for drivers that provide only this type of information. Listening to the radio helps on long journeys, especially at night – focusing on listening keeps you from falling asleep. Morning and afternoon news services are often the main source of information about the world for people who don’t have time to read newspapers or watch TV. Radio is the medium that we are often the first to deal with during the day, so it is from it that we usually learn about the most important events. It is also often a source of knowledge about the latest music trends.

What radio should I choose for my car?

Many, especially older cars, have the simplest radio receivers. However, if you spend a lot of time on the road, it’s worth investing in a radio that will give you more options than just listening to your favorite radio station. Vordon offers modern android radios with a touchscreen display. These receivers combine many functions – they can replace GPS, you can use them to listen to music from YouTube or other services and watch movies on Netflix. They also make it possible to perform diagnostics on the car’s control systems and display the image from the rearview camera. These are multifunctional devices that provide unlimited entertainment for both the driver and passengers.
